Building & Growing With The Wilson Brothers

To say 2019 has been a busy year for Logan Wilson would be a vast understatement. With over $100 million dollars of real estate currently listed under his name, a growing media company to oversee, and the launch of Vancouver Island’s first exclusively luxury publication, it is a wonder he has time to step out of his downtown office adjacent to the Empress Hotel.

Logan began his career in real estate at a young age as a land surveyor throughout Alberta and BC working on a variety of projects from several high-rise developments here in downtown Victoria, to remote surveying of Gulf Islands locations alongside his brother, Shane Wilson.

After years in the field, Logan moved to the sales side of property as a residential and commercial realtor in the Edmonton area. Despite consistently ranking in the top 10% of Realtors for overall sales, Logan was drawn back to BC and settled in Victoria.

Since joining Sotheby’s Realty in 2015, Logan has effectively leveraged the brand’s prestige and unmatched international reach, having listed and sold some of the most prominent homes in Victoria.

While he and his media company, founded in 2016, have become specialists in marketing luxury property and brands, Logan still works with buyers and sellers in all price categories.

As we regularly film and photograph properties around the island, logistics are always a challenge. We decided that rather than leaving the work to an outside party, it was time to build something that better served ours and our client’s needs.

The company name RAWork Media (pronounced RAW-Work) is a reference to unprocessed media files, often called RAW, and the effort that goes into making these files into finished products.

This investment has certainly paid off for real estate clients, with Logan’s listings regularly receiving incredible international exposure to the tune of millions of views through Sotheby’s International Realty’s many advertising partners, and Logan’s own Victoria Luxury Group online portals.

To better market Vancouver Island’s luxury real estate on a local level, Logan and his brother Shane invested in the design and development of twin websites that cover the entire island. Victorialuxurygroup.com covers listings in the Capital Regional District, while luxuryislandhomes.ca showcases listings north of Victoria. These sites are visually stunning platforms through which the public can easily search any property listed on either the Victoria Real Estate Board, or Vancouver Island Real Estate Board’s multiple listing service.

In the luxury market, international connections and insights are very important. I spent some time in Australia visiting the world’s highest producing Sotheby’s office, meeting some of the world’s top agents early this year. After seeing their operations, including their own luxury publication, we started toying with the idea of creating our own. We use success strategies to gain successful results. It’s as simple as identifying what works globally and bringing those tools to Vancouver Island to create the ultimate real estate marketing machine.

There’s more than one Wilson brother making a name for themselves here on Vancouver Island. Having started his real estate career with Sotheby’s in December 2017, Shane Wilson is now revelling in the results of two years of gruelling work making a new life in Comox.

Another Alberta import, Shane made his way to Vancouver Island in September 2017. Making the switch from managing a large land survey office to real estate now has Shane back in the driver’s seat, serving clients all over north and central Vancouver Island.

I got into real estate to save my body from the wear and tear that surveying requires. Surveying incorporates, more than any other profession, every aspect of land from topographical and legal surveying, to engineering and layout, to legal rights of the public and private clients, to the planning and design aspects, to the finished product and its position on the property. No other job prepares you better for what real estate involves in all aspects.

Just off the heels of the highest residential sale of all time in the Hillier/Coombs/Errington area, Shane has now set records in several other areas island-wide. With $32 million in commercial and residential listings also on the board, including another incredible oceanfront estate in Tofino, Shane is excited about the future of communities north of Victoria.

The north and central part of the island are still relatively undiscovered country; there is immense potential for development and the lifestyle is unparalleled. Compared to the Capital Regional District, the central and north island offer incredible value with more affordable real estate available. Furthermore, the majority of these areas fall outside of the British Columbia foreign buyers tax requirements.

Not simply relegated to the luxury market, Shane works with a diverse mix of listings and clients both commercial and residential, with a swath of development contacts and projects in the works. These include everything from residential and commercial, to industrial projects.

Shane is exceedingly pleased to be expanding the Sotheby’s International Realty brand to Central and North Vancouver Island where it was not previously available.
