Rooftop Tapas At The Livet
If you enjoy small plate dining and inventive dishes created with locally sourced fine ingredients, you may consider visiting the Livet for your next culinary adventure.
The Livet opened its doors in August 2016 and is located across from the landmark Royal Theatre on Broughton Street. Developed by veteran restaurateur Graham Meckling, owner of Stage Wine Bar (a Victoria mainstay and Vancouver Magazine Restaurant of the year 2015 & 2016) and award-winning executive Chef Derrek Leong, the restaurant was named in honour of Graham’s purebred English Labrador, Glenlivet.
This summer, Leong will be showcasing a charcuterie program and serving rose sangrias and amaro fizzes among other creations. Leong is an expert at blending cuisines, often merging Asian and French flavours — an homage to his Chinese heritage and education in French cuisine.
Meckling and his chef Derrek Leong were inspired to develop a menu that revolved around small plates.
Meckling wanted the space of his latest venture to be uptempo, uplifting and bright. He hired Victoria based design firm Bidgood + Co. Interior Designers to create a contemporary space.
The neutral palette of the walls is punctuated by mouldings in a geometric display reminiscent of the Art Deco era. A bold block of colour on the bar also contrasts starkly with the walls. Copper accents are found in the spherical light fixtures and barstools, adding a delightful variation in texture to the space. In contrast to the art deco concept, custom wood-slatted bench seating creates a repeated pattern of parallel lines and lends a casual, modern feel.
Spend an evening at The Livet’s sublime south facing patio with it’s skyline views, cozy up in the inviting dining room, or dine at the indoor/outdoor bar top for a memorable experience. The Livet also hosts wedding receptions and corporate events.
